SUMMARY:The Hearts Project COVID-19 Memorial at Springdale Public Library
DESCRIPTION:Pandemic Memorial travels to Springdale Public Library\nDecember 15\, 2026 – February 28\, 2027\, Springdale\, AR \nTwo frames that are part of “The Hearts Project COVID-19 Memorial” will soon travel to the Springdale Public Library. The display runs through February 28\, 2027\, and offers a unique\, multi-faceted understanding of pandemic experiences. It also honors lives lost to the pandemic in Arkansas. \nBy September 22\, 2022\, Fayetteville artist Monica Anne Moore had amassed four thousand hearts. At this moment\, she issued a call for help and received several offers from those who also felt a strong need to remember. Though the original goal was to cut one heart for each of the 13\,068 deaths in Arkansas\, ideas for quilt-like patterns began to emerge as the way to display them. Moore felt these quilt-like patterns “were needed to help recall the equally important experiences of the living.” \nThis exhibit debuted at the Fort Smith Regional Art Museum (RAM) in July 2024. The first installation showcased the first 20% (2\,700) of the total hearts needed to complete the memorial. The two frames on display at the Springdale Public Library include “Our Frontline Workers” and “The Purple Hearts.” Each frame features 900 2” x 2” paper hearts nesting within 6’ x 5’ frames and arranged within compositions that honor special groups\, including essential health care and “frontline” essential service workers. \nQUICK FACTS\nExhibition: The Hearts Project\nLocation: Springdale Public Library\, 405 S. Pleasant St.\, Springdale\, AR  72764\nExhibition Run: DEC. 15\, 2026 – FEB. 28\, 2027\nCost: Free \nPhoto: The shades of black and brown hearts pictured above nest within a frame dedicated to frontline essential service workers who put their lives on the line during the height of the pandemic.

SUMMARY:The Ghosts of COVID’s Christmas Past
DESCRIPTION:“The Hearts Project COVID-19 Memorial” debuts “The Ghosts of COVID’s Christmas Past” at Northwest Arkansas Community College\, Bentonville Campus. This display runs through May 6\, 2027\, and offers a unique\, multi-faceted understanding of collective pandemic experiences. Importantly\, the recycled paper hearts function to honor lives lost to the pandemic in Arkansas. \nThis second set of three frames features collage art that evokes quilt-like patterns and touches on different experiences of the three Christmases we lived through during the public health emergency. \nBy September 22\, 2022\, Fayetteville artist Monica Anne Moore had amassed four thousand hearts. She issued a call for help and received several offers from those who also felt a strong need to remember. Though the original goal was to cut one heart for each of the 13\,068 reported deaths in Arkansas\, ideas for quilt-styled collages began to emerge as the way to display them. Moore felt these representations “were needed to help recall the equally important experiences of the living.” \nSince debuting our first three frames at the Fort Smith Regional Art Museum in 2024\, we have added another 2\,700 hearts to the memorial collection\, bringing the total to 5\,400 2” x 2” paper hearts. This represents 41% of the total hearts needed to complete the memorial. In its entirety\, the memorial will include fifteen 6’ x 5’ frames. \nFeatured image: COVID’s First Christmas: Upside Down and Sideways \nQUICK FACTS\nExhibition: The Hearts Project COVID-19 Memorial\nLocation: NorthWest Arkansas Community College\nShewmaker Center for Workforce Technologies\nWalmart Auditorium\, Bentonville\, AR \nExhibit Run: DEC. 15\, 2026 – MAY 6\, 2027\nCost: Free \nNOTE: Community members should email special.events@nwacc.edu to ensure the Walmart Auditorium is not hosting an event during the planned visit. \nHoliday closures: More information about campus closures can be found by visiting https://www.nwacc.edu/calendar/holidays.html. \nContact: Monica Moore | covidheartsproject@gmail.com | 479-651-3705\nhttps://heartsprojectfoundation.org/
